What causes snoring?
During sleep our muscles in our body and airways relax. This causes the tissues allow a smaller passage for air to flow in and out through your nose and mouth. This narrowing of the airway causes the tissues to vibrate which creates snoring.
What is sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea occurs when the airway is repeatedly blocked during sleep, causing the person to stop breathing from seconds to minutes at a time. This repeated lack of oxygen during sleep can cause the person to feel tired when waking, like they have not slept at all and can also contribute to high blood pressure and feelings of stress.
How does NightLase work?
NightLase uses an Erbium laser that is attracted to water under the skin. This laser produces heat that helps to shrink soft tissues and therefore opening the airways. This increased airway opening allows more airflow to get in and out during sleep. The more space for airflow then the less snoring and occurrences of sleep apnea.
Does it hurt?
No, its very comfortable. You will only feel some warmth from the laser. During the treatment you will be asked to sit with your mouth open, so the technician can see the areas that need to be treated. The whole process takes about 15 to 20minutes. There is no preparation. Only recommendation is no water 1 hour before treatment to maximize its effects.
How long does it last?
Typically, 3 treatments are recommended, at about 2-week intervals. Then, only 1 treatment is recommended annually to ensure long term results.
When do I see results?
Immediately! Take a deep breath right before and after treatment and you will feel a difference. The technician can also show you a picture of your airway before and after to see the amazing change!
